Helen Simone Johnston
I am a MA graduate in printed textiles and surface design. I have been working for myself since October 2018. My inspiration comes from architecture, travel and nature using my photographic material as a base for my drawn designs. I use pencil, fine liners, photoshop skills and a carefully selected colour palette, following current trends from WGSN, to create a unique selection of colourful bold designs that come to life.
I source printing from British and local companies, then my products are designed and made at home to produce a selection of high-end designer products for the interior market. My designs are colourful with a retro / vintage feel, that will enhance a modern or character home, bringing brightness into your living environment which dominates our current lifestyle.
I offer a wide selection of items such as cushions oblong or square, aprons with an adjustable neck strap and matching tea towels. Lampshades, pendant or table lamp these are bright, quirky modern designs that are suitable up to 60w bulb. All of these items are constructed from my vibrant fabrics with the help and support of Mom who also has a fashion and textiles background creating a mother daughter team. I can offer a unique bespoke service to the customer alongside my designer range.
Placemats, coasters and mouse mats are created using my sublimation printer and heat press. Mirrors and Lavender bags offer a range of small gifts to appeal to all budgets and hand drawn cards are suitable for all occasions.
In 2017 I won the Trend Awareness Award for Colour at the January Furniture Show. Earlier this year I was privileged to work with Ruskin Mill Trust and design a range of cards, gift wrap and coasters for their Heritage Shop at their Birmingham Argent building in the Jewellery Quarter. I have regular stands at craft fairs, country markets where I sell my products and online availability through my NuMonday Website.
